VACCINE EXEMPTION
Can I get exemption from compulsory vaccination?
CDC may grant exemptions from the vaccination requirement on an extremely limited basis when extraordinary emergency travel (such as an emergency medical evacuation) must be undertaken to preserve someone's health and safety, and testing cannot be completed prior to travel . There are no waivers available for people who test positive for COVID-19. COVID-19 tests
- Are PCR and/or antigen tests available to US citizens in South Africa? Yes.
- PCR tests are widely available. There are some private companies that do COVID-19 tests with a price around $80-100 USD.
- If so, are test results available within a day? Yes.
- PCR test results are generally available within one calendar day, per CDC regulations. US citizens should check with the facility or laboratory for specific information on how long, on average, it takes to receive results.
- Information on where and how to get a COVID-19 test:
- Locations: Hospitals generally only test for COVID-19 for patients who arrive with a letter from their doctor. The US Embassy does not recommend any particular testing facility, but is aware of several providers, including: Ampath Laboratories, NextPathology Biosciences, Lancet Laboratories, Dis-Chem Pharmacy, PathCare, Epicenter, Biosmart Laboratories, Travel Doctor, and some clinics day/urgent care. like Intercare. - Payment: Public sector tests are free; however, this option is not available for testing solely for travel purposes.
